Tribute to 1964 and 1968 Olympic Pairs Champions Ludmilla & Oleg Protopopov
Celebrate figure skating history as the Skating Club of Lake Placid, Village of Lake Placid, United States Figure Skating Association and Olympic Regional Development Authority honor two-time Olympic gold medalists (1964 and 1968) and four-time World Champions Lyudmila and Oleg Protopopov during a special figure skating show, Saturday, September 3, 2011.
The Protopopovs, having dedicated their lives to one another both on and off the ice since 1957, are known throughout the skating world for their grace, style and artistry during their memorable performances, including the innovative "death spiral", inspiring generations of skaters.
The Saturday night show will be held in the historical 1980 Herb Brooks Arena at the Lake Placid Olympic Center and is expected to bring several figure skating stars to Lake Placid to honor the Protopopovs including five-time U.S. Champion and 1972 Olympic bronze medalist Janet Lynn Salomon Richard "Dick" Button.
This incredible event will be bringing generations of skaters together to pay tribute to the Protopopovs and their valuable contribution to the rich history of figure skating. Among the featured performers will be 1980 Olympian and three-time Canadian Ice Dance Champion, Lorna Wighton-Aldridge; David De Fazio, 2007 Swiss Ice Dance Champion; and 1984 Olympic bronze medalists Larisa Selezneva and Oleg Markarov.
The show is open to the public and all proceeds from this event to benefit the Skating Club of Lake Placid (SCLP).
