Olympic Center Basic Skills Weekend
August 8-10, 2008
This weekend is designed for skaters and parents to learn more about the sport of figure skating. While the kids are on the ice or doing other activities the parents get to learn all about what is involved in figure skating and the many different paths you can take with it. Any question you have about skating will be answered by our panel of experts. At the same time, your kids will enjoy a fun filled skating experience.
Each skater will not only explore all aspects of skating on the ice – freestyle, dance, Artistry in Motion and synchronized skating, but they will also learn proper warm-up and stretching technique, ballet and trampoline. In addition to skating the kids will be introduced to other Olympic sports such as luge and biathlon by ORDA’s sports development team.
Parent topics will include disciplines of skating, judging, preparing for competitions, choosing the right coach and buying skates. On Saturday night kids and parents are invited to Lake Placid’s traditional Saturday Night Ice Show featuring a special guest skater as well as skaters training in Lake Placid. On Sunday there will be a small skills competition where everyone gets a prize!
