Summer Figure Skating Program :: Events & Activities

Saturday Night Ice Shows

Perhaps the most famous Lake Placid Figure Skating tradition, the Saturday Night Ice Show dates back to the summer of 1932 and the legendary Gus Lussi. During their stay in Lake Placid, skaters have the opportunity to perform a solo program under the spotlights in the 1932 Rink – Jack Shea Arena for an audience of tourists, local community members, other skaters and parents. In addition, we invite special nationally and internationally ranked guest skaters each week to skate with our own skaters. Skaters training here for the week also have the opportunity to participate in group numbers to be performed during the show. Skating in the Saturday Night Ice Shows is a privilege. We cannot guarantee that each skater will be able to participate. In the event of an extremely busy week, we may add a show on Friday night at the discretion of the arena manager.

Freaky Friday Figure Skate

Freaky Friday is an entertainment based competition where skaters get to show off their creativity and style. A panel of local celebrity judges will evaluate skaters not on jumps and spins, but rather on creativity and enjoyment. This is a great chance for the skaters to let loose, get out in front of an audience and show off how fun skating is. Each skater will receive a participation gift and the winner each week receives a special prize pack. The final Freaky Friday will consist of the winners from the previous weeks, plus a wild card. They will be competing for a $1000 savings bond.

Sunday Registration & Orientation

New skater registration will occur from 3pm-5pm on Sundays, with the exception of July 20 th due to the Ironman Race. A table will be located across from the Olympic Center Arena Office and skaters will be able to pick up their packets. The Box Office will also be open during that time to purchase lesson tickets, lockers, etc.

Community Service Project

On weekends kids will have the opportunity to participate in small projects to help out various service organizations. More information – location, time, project, etc. – will be available upon arrival.
