Synchronized Skating Camp

For the fourth year in a row, Lake Placid is thrilled to be putting together another great year of synchronized skating programs. We recognize that it takes a lot to be a synchronized skater – turns have to be proficient, spins have to be fast, heads have to be sharp AND it all has to be in synch!

This year we have put together two great programs for synchronized skaters at all levels to improve their skills and have a great time in the process.

July 6-12, 2008

High Performance/Individualized Training Camp

$850 per skater – includes all on- and off-ice instruction, housing, meals and transportation between the Olympic Center & Olympic Training Center.

New this year – this session will be for skaters who have passed their INTERMEDIATE moves or above or have skated on a junior team for at least one year. Skaters must be at least 11 years old.

Skaters in this program will have daily on-ice sessions first focusing on proper skating technique, difficult turns, posture and overall edge quality. They will then use what they have just improved upon and bring it to a team setting. The on-ice ice sessions as a team will go through all of the synchronized skating elements such as blocks, circles, wheels, lines, spins, moves in the field and moves in isolation.

Off-ice seminars will include a mental fitness session with a sports psychologist to work on goal setting, imagery and self-confidence. Other off-ice programs to include nutrition, leadership and the IJS (judging system).

Skaters will also have daily off-ice fitness and dance classes. The fitness classes are designed to enhance balance, core strength, speed and agility. Proper stretching technique and flexibility will also be emphasized. Dance classes will differ day to day and use techniques from ballet, jazz, hip hop and modern.

New to this program – individual skating & fitness evaluations. Skaters will have a chance to meet with the skating coaches to discuss where they are in skating, their improvement during the week and a plan to reach all of their goals. This will be done on a one on one basis towards the end of the week. There will also be fitness testing and again, they will have a chance to meet one on one to discuss a plan so they can take it to the next level.

Saturday afternoon there will be a demonstration for parents.
