Summer Figure Skating Program -- Events & Activities
Test Sessions -- We offer three U.S. Figure Skating test sessions for all levels throughout the summer: June 26, July 31 and August 28. Canadian tests may also be available. Applications are available on the registration page of this site.
Freaky Fridays -- Freaky Fridays are entertainment based competitions where skaters get to show off their creativity and style. A panel of local celebrity judges will evaluate skaters not on jumps and spins, but rather on creativity and enjoyment. This is a great chance for the skaters to get loose, get in front of an audience and show off how fun skating really is. Each skater receives a participation gift and the winner each week receives a special prize. The winners from each week plus a “wild card” are invited back for the final Freaky Friday to compete for a $1000 savings bond.
Saturday Night Ice Shows -- Perhaps the most famous Lake Placid Skating tradition, the Saturday Night Ice Show dates back to the summer of 1932 and the legendary Gus Lussi. During their stay in Lake Placid, skaters have the opportunity to perform a solo program under the spotlights in the 1932 Rink – Jack Shea Arena for an audience of tourists, local community members, other skaters and parents. There is also a group number/finale every week that skaters of all levels have the opportunity to skate in. In addition, we invite nationally and internationally ranked guest skaters to perform in the show. Some of our guest skaters have included Ryan Bradley,Rachael Flatt, ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White, and pairs skaters Amanda Evora & Mark Ladwig. There are always special autograph and photo opportunities for our summer skaters to meet the special guest skaters. Skating in the Saturday Night Ice Show is a privilege. We cannot guarantee that every skater will be able to perform a solo every wee, however, the group number is open to everyone each week so there is always a chance to participate in the show!
